Kathryn R. Davis, 89

October 16, 2004

Kathryn R. “Kate” Davis, 89, of 106 Iron Street Danville, PA died Friday morning, October 15, 2004 at Grandview Health Homes Danville, PA. 

She was born November 28, 1914 in Bloomsburg, PA the daughter of the late Daniel and Sarah Hummel Mericle.  She graduated from Bloomsburg High School in 1931 and the Geisinger School of Nursing in 1936.  Mrs. Davis was employed as a night supervisor at Geisinger from 1938-1941.  While her children were young she did private duty nursing in area homes.  She retired as supervisor of Female Admissions at the Danville State Hospital in 1974.  She was a member of Geisinger Nursing Alumni Association and the Acacia Club.  She adored her family, enjoyed being with friends and going out to lunch. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years William A. Davis in April 22, 1984.

She was the loving and wonderful mother and mother-in-law to daughter Beth A. Smedley and her husband Edward of Danville, PA and to her son William A. Davis and daughter-in-law Mary O. of Charleston, SC who survive her.  She is also survived by three grandchildren, Jana Leigh Morreale of Bradenton, FL and Jennie Rivers and Second Lieutenant Matthew William Davis of Mildenhall Air Force Base, England.  One sister, Helen Harter, preceded her in death. 

Being a member of First Baptist Church since 1939, funeral services will be held Monday at 1:00 PM from tbe church 20 Brookside Drive Danville, PA with her pastor the Rev. Dr. Harry H. Wonderland officiating with Rev. David J. Mouw, Associate Pastor and the Reverend Calvin R. Beveridge, Pastor Emeritus officiating.  Burial will follow in Old Rosemont Cemetery in Bloomsburg,  PA.  Friends may call from noon until the time of service at the church. 

The family will provide flowers.  Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church or The American Heart Association 7272 Greenville Avenue Dallas, TX  75231-4596.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 West Mahoning Street Danville, PA  17821
