William W. Dickerson

November 19, 2019

William W. Dickerson, 78, of Danville PA passed away on November 18, 2019 at Geisinger Medical Center.  He was born January 13, 1941 in Germantown PA, the son of the late W. Tingle and Margaret Woods Dickerson.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 17 years, Mary Ann Schlachter Dickerson.  They were married November 30, 2002.

Bill attended Moorestown Friends School in Moorestown NJ for 13 years, graduating in 1959.  He also graduated from Lafayette College in 1965 where he played on the soccer team for four years. 

After working at the Crestmont Inn in Eagles Mere, he spent the next 16 years working for the YMCA in Williamsport PA; the State YMCA in Somerset PA; The Red Bank Family YMCA in Red Bank NJ; and ending that career with the YMCA in Monroe Michigan.  He owned Billís Sport Shop in Danville PA starting in 1982 and served as a State Constable for numerous years.  He was currently serving as the Montour County Zoning officer.

He was a devoted member of the Elks including the Danville Elks Lodge #754 and the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge #436.  He was All State Esteemed Leading Knight 1984-1985 and District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler of Northeast District 2012-2013.  Bill was also a past member of the Danville Rotary Club.

He enjoyed various hobbies throughout his life.  He was a self-taught gunsmith and thoroughly enjoyed fishing and hunting with his son in younger years.  One of his favorite pastimes was being a HAM Radio Operator where on March 18, 1979 he obtained a World record using an Argonaut and a three-element beam in accomplishing a time of 40 seconds under 11 minutes.

Known for his kind heart and distinct sense of humor, Bill was a devoted, caring husband, dad, grandfather, brother and friend whose memory will remain with all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children; Amy Welde and her husband Chris of King of Prussia PA and Robert W. Dickerson and his wife Wendy of Olathe Kansas as well as four grandchildren; Alexander Welde, Amanda Welde, Bryce Dickerson and Brandon Dickerson. Also surviving are two sisters; Carol Dickerson Kauffman of Indiana PA and Mary Reed of Williamsport PA as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Billís life will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 42 West Mahoning Street Danville PA with Pastor Greg Molter officiating.  Friends will be received from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM at which time an Elks Memorial Service will be held.    Memorial Contributions may be made to BPOE Elks National Foundation online at Elks.org or the NRA online at NRA.org.
