“Dick” Gass, 86, formerly of Danville PA, passed away on Monday, June 12,
2017 at Senior Care of Kulpmont in Kulpmont PA. He was born April 19, 1931
in Danville PA the son of the late Paul Landis and Anna Freida Swigart Gass.
He was married for
36 years to the late Sara Jane McClenahen who preceded him in death January
2, 1992. They were married on September 8, 1956.
He was also
married to the late Dorothy Rothermel.
from Danville High School in 1948. He served his country in the United
States Army as a Corporal from 1952 – 1954.
He was employed as
a Warehouse Supervisor for Merck and Co., Inc. for 37 years
from where he
retired in 1988.
Dick was a member
of Shiloh United Church of Christ Danville PA where he served on The
Consistory. His other memberships included Danville American Legion Post
40, Danville Elks, East End Fire Company, past board member of the American
Lung Association of Central Pennsylvania, Thomas Beaver Free Library board
member from 1984-1988 and he was the Director of Montour County Civil
Defense from 1970-1971. He also served as a Republican Committeeman for
Mahoning Township from 1970-1976. Dick volunteered for the Danville
Ambulance and was a dedicated longtime volunteer for the Donald P. Vrabec
House of Care Danville PA.
playing golf and coin collecting. He was well known for his friendly smile
and his social wellbeing. Many loving memories will be cherished by his
friends, family and his grandchildren whom he adored.
He is survived by
three daughters; Sharon L. Pilker and her husband Eric of Bostic NC Debra K.
Feaster, and Brenda J. Faverio and her husband David of Smithtown NY. Also
surviving are seven grandchildren; Sean, Chad, Emma, Alessia, Elena, Cayla
and Corey and three great-grandchildren; Landis, Adalene and Maxwell. He is
also survived by two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by one
granddaughter, Dawn Nicole Feaster on September 14, 2014 and his sister,
friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Dick’s Life to be held on
Friday, June 16, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Visneski Funeral Home, Inc 10 W Mahoning
Street Danville, PA with the Reverend Mary B. Schmotzer Shiloh United Church
of Christ Danville PA officiating. Friends will be received from 2:00 until
the time of service. Burial will be held in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville,
PA. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 40 Honor
