Roy E. Burton, III

Roy E. Burton, III, 74, “Chip” passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Select Specialty Hospital in Danville PA.  He was born April 4, 1947 in Durham, North Carolina; the son of the late Roy E. and Margaret Thebault Burton, Jr.

Roy graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in 1966. He graduated from Penn State University in 1974 with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

He served his country in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War.

Roy was married to his devoted wife of 49 years, Carol Joy Hallman Burton. They would have been married 50 years in August, their wedding date being August 28, 1971.

He was employed as a Mechanical Engineer at PP&L for 26 years and then at Shawville Power Plant for 10 years, from where he retired.

Roy was a member of the American Legion Post 40 Danville and the Shawville Eagles Club.  He also served on the Valley Township Planning Committee.

He was an avid pool player which was one of his greatest enjoyments.  Roy was deeply devoted to his family.  He cherished his wife, children and grandchildren and will be missed greatly.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons; Roy E. Burton, IV and his wife Danielle of South Carolina and Corey Burton of Montoursville PA.  Also surviving are two grandsons; Caleb Burton and Corey Burton, Jr. and three granddaughters; Brooke, Molly and McKayley Burton. One sister, Betsy Retzler and her husband Bob of Florida, also survives.

A Celebration of Roy’s life will be held next Friday, June 4th at 2:00 PM at Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 42 West Mahoning Street Danville PA with the Reverend Shawn McNett officiating.  Friends will be received from 1:00 – 1:45 PM.  Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 40 and the National Army Honor Guard.

The family will provide flowers.  Memorial Contributions may be made to Thomas Beaver Free Library 317 Ferry Street Danville PA.
