Jean E. Dower, 92, passed away peacefully
surrounded by her family on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Maria Hall Hospice
in Danville, PA. She was born September 14, 1928 in Passaic, NJ, the
daughter of the late Jacob and Sarah M. Scraver Allman.
She graduated from Hackensack High School in
1946 and from the Paine Hall School in New York City in 1950 as a medical
assistant. Later, she graduated from St. Vincent’s Hospital School of
Nursing in Montclair, NJ as an LPN.
Jean was married for 44 years to Maurice “Gus”
Dower who preceded her in death on May 2, 2004. They were married December
8, 1959.
Jean was employed in the medical field for many
years. She retired from Hackensack Medical Center in 1989.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in
Danville, PA where she served in the Vocal
Choir, Handbell Choir, as a Greeter and also in the Nursery for Ladies Bible
Study. One of her greatest joys was
leading and teaching Bible Studies. She was a member of the Northumberland
Senior Action Center where she led a Men’s and Women’s Chorus which
performed at local Assisted Living and Nursing Home facilities several times
a year.
Jean was an avid vegetable and flower gardener
and loved music. She enjoyed traveling to visit her children, all of whom
she adored.
She will be remembered for her kindness and her
love of family. She loved being a part of all their activities. Jean lived
her faith fully. She had a sacrificial and generous heart. Jean’s greatest
request was this: “I want people to see the Lord through my children.”
She is survived by three children: Bruce Dower
and his wife Wendy of Cameron, NC, Debbie Dower of Kandern, Germany and John
Dower and his wife Diane of Glassboro, NJ. Also surviving are six
grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is survived by one sister,
Alice Touw, of Pompton Plains, NJ and one brother, Kenneth DiLello of
Florida. She was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Reiner.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a
Celebration of Jean’s life which will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at
2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Danville, PA, 12 Brookside Drive (Off 642
East) with the Reverend Dawes J. Dunham officiating. Friends will be
received from 12:30 to 1:45 PM. Masking and social distancing are required.
Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA on
Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 11:00 AM.
The family will
provide flowers. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made on
behalf of the ministry of her daughter, Debbie, who serves at Black Forest
