Harry L. Stump, Sr.

April 5, 2021

Harry L. Stump, Sr., 91, of Danville, PA passed away Sunday, April 4, 2021.  He was born July 9, 1929 in Turbotville, PA, ­­­­the son of the late Arthur E. and Clara Belle (Tipler) Stump.  

He graduated from Danville Area High School in 1948. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Mae Saricks Stump whom he married July 1, 1950.   

Harry served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

He was employed for many years in various positions in the textile industry in the Danville area, retiring in 1991.

Harry was an active and faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church and spent many hours working to complete building the present church.  He was one of the founders and first coaches of the Danville Jays and enjoyed Little League coaching. He was a lifetime member of the Danville Moose Lodge and oldest lifetime member of Continental Fire Company until the time of his passing as well as a member of the Susquehanna Rod and Gun Club since 1958.  Harry was a member of the Danville-Mahoning Lodge #224 Danville, PA as well as a member of the Caldwell Consistory in Bloomsburg, PA.

Harry was active in politics in the Danville area which included being a 3rd Ward councilman, past Chairman of the Montour County Republican Party and served as Montour County Commissioner. 

Harry enjoyed bowling, carpentry, and woodworking.  Above all, Harry loved traveling to the beach and the Thousand Island area with his family and loved ones.  He will be remembered as a deeply devoted, supportive, and loving Pap to his grandchildren, making sure he was present at all their sporting activities.   

He is survived by one son, Harry L Stump, Jr. and his wife Marie of Danville PA and two grandchildren:  Kyle and his wife, Katie Messinger of Milton, PA and Caitlin Stump of Danville, PA and one great-granddaughter, Elaina Mae.  Also surviving is one brother, Clair Stump and his wife Nancy of Danville PA, along with numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by two premature daughters and four brothers: Lee, Collins, Francis and Marvin.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Harry’s Life to be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 84 Lombard Avenue Danville, PA with his pastor, the Reverend David Layser officiating assisted by the Reverend Rayvon Hilliard.  Friends will be received from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM.  Social distancing and masks will be required.   Masonic rites will be accorded.   Burial will follow in Elan Memorial Park in Bloomsburg, PA with military rites accorded by the American Legion Honor Guard Post 40 and Honor Guard from the United States Marine Corps.  Friends and family may view his Celebration of Life remotely by Facebook Livestream at www.facebook.com/visneskifh

The family will provide flowers.  Memorial Contributions may be made in Harry’s memory to Trinity United Methodist Church or PA PETS  203 East 5th Street Bloomsburg PA 17815.
