Emma Jean James Mensch

Emma Jean James Mensch Jordan, 84, of Danville PA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at her residence.  She was born January 1, 1937 in Danville PA, the daughter of the late Ralph and Anna Houseknecht James. 

She graduated from Danville High School in 1954 where she served as Class Secretary until 2020.  She enjoyed planning and organizing the annual picnic for her classmates each year. 

Emma Jean was employed at the Danville Silk Mill during her senior year of school; W.T. Grant Company for 22 years and the Danville Earned Income Tax Office for 18 years.  After her retirement she enjoyed working at Bea Butler’s and Beiter’s in Danville  

She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Richard Jordan. They were married November 16, 2002.    She was married for 43 years to her first husband, Marlin Mensch, who preceded her in death in 2001.   

Emma Jean was a very dedicated and active member of Trinity United Methodist Church Danville PA where she served faithfully in many ministries there. She was referred to as the “unspoken leader” in so many selfless ways there.  She will be remembered and deeply missed for her quick wit, kind spirit and her ever present smile. 

She was an avid shopper and loved animals.  She also enjoyed gambling and taking trips to Atlantic City NJ with her family and friends. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons: Timothy Mensch and his wife Christina and granddaughter Chelsea Elizabeth Nicole of Turbotville PA and Keith Mensch and his wife Dawn and granddaughter Willow Marie of Orangeville PA   She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Barron and her husband David of Danville PA and her nephew Matthew and great-niece, Christina. Also surviving are three stepchildren: four step-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.  She was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy who died at birth.  

A Celebration of Emma Jean’s life will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church 84 Lombard Street  Danville, PA with the Reverend David Layser and the Reverend Ronald French officiating. Family and friends will be received from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM and also on Wednesday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the church.  Social distancing and masks will be required.   Burial will be held in Odd Fellows Cemetery Danville PA where she will be laid to rest next to Marlin Mensch.  Friends and family may view her service remotely by Facebook Livestream at www.facebook.com/visneskifh.  

The family will provide flowers.  Memorial contributions may be made to the church or LAPS Lycoming Animal Protection Society c/o LAPS Treasurer, 2415 North Hills Drive Williamsport PA  17701.
