Samuel Walter Shade, 76, of Danville PA, passed away as a result of the
COVID 19 Virus on Monday, August 31, 2020, at Milton Nursing and
Rehabilitation in Milton PA. Sam was born in New York City on March 13,
1944, the son of Mary and Howard Shade. In 1958, Sam moved to the family
farm in Danville with his parents and brother, Matt Shade, and sister, Helen
Shade Conlon. Sam really loved the move to the rural life in Danville and
helping his Dad with the farm chores that went along with it.
Sam was an avid baseball fan and when he wasn’t working outdoors, he
amassed a large collection of the cards of his favorite players. Sam would
put the cards in a large box in an order that only he knew. When someone had
the gall to take a card out of the box and fail to return it to its proper
location, there was heck to pay. He also was a big fan of the old Western
movies of the John Wayne genre and classified them in a method similar to
his baseball cards. Sam also enjoyed fishing with his Dad or rowing boats
in various lakes, large and small, including his favorite in Central Park in
New York City.
He is survived by his brother Matt Shade and his wife Raema, and their four
children: Matt, Jr, Denise Banna, Michele Benedetto and Mike in Atlanta,
Georgia and his sister, Helen Shade Conlon and her husband Bill and their
three children: Malcolm, Jason and Joshua Acree.
A graveside service at the same plot as his parents was held on Thursday,
September 3, 2020, at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with the Reverend Timothy
Marcoe as officiant.
Arrangements were under the direction of Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 42 West
Mahoning Street Danville PA 17821.
