Paul W. Cashner

December 5, 2020

Paul W.Cashner, 92, of Shamokin Dam PA and formerly of Danville PA passed away December 2, 2020 at Geisinger Medical Center Danville PA.  He was the only child and last male Cashner of his generation, born to the late James Melvin (Pete) Cashner and Helen Pearl Depoe Cashner of Montour County PA.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Geraldine M. “Gerri” DeWald Cashner in 2019.  They were married May 12, 1988.  He was previously married for 30 years to the late Ann M. Rourke of Albany NY.

Paul spent his formative years in Danville PA, graduating from Danville High School in 1945.  After graduating, he worked briefly at Geisinger Medical Center in the accounting office. He then enlisted in the United States Army and served in Japan during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946.  After returning, he returned to work at Geisinger Medical Center until entering college at Bucknell University for two years and then transferred to Northwestern University in Illinois, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Accounting.

Paul relocated to Schenectady NY where he was employed by General Electric in the Federal Income Tax Office.  He then worked for the State of New York for two years and for 30 years as auditor of the Schenectady Naval Reactor Office in Niskayuna NY, from where he retired.

He was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Shamokin Dam PA.

Paul, a private man, began his retirement days sleeping late, tinkering, gardening and often staying outside late into the evening.  Paul was a generous provider to his family.  He had a sense of humor that was uniquely his own.  His favorite response to being greeted with “how are you?” was “terrible”.

Services and burial will be private at Odd Fellows Cemetery Danville PA.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church 3249 North Old Trail Road PO Box 68 Shamokin Dam PA 17868.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Visneski Funeral Home 42 W Mahoning Street Danville PA 17821.
