Leon Allan Knapp


January 13, 2020


Leon Allan Knapp, 59, of Washingtonville, PA passed away suddenly on January 11, 2020. He was born April 29, 1960 in Bloomsburg PA the son of Charles and Constance Billmeyer Knapp

He graduated from Danville Area High School in 1978. 

He is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Lorraine Riegel Knapp. They were married April 22, 1989.

Leon was previously employed by Smith Machine shop in Danville PA, International Paper and was a Plant Operator at Danville Water Works for the last 17 years.  In earlier years, he enjoyed his job as a Pennsylvania Deputy Game Warden.

Leon was a member of Washingtonville Lutheran Church where he served faithfully on the Council and Cemetery Board.  He also served on the Board of the Jane E. Delong Memorial Hall Association.  His other memberships included the Washingtonville Volunteer Fire Company, 06 Rod and Gun Club and Danville-Mahoning Lodge #224 F & AM.  

He was an avid Penn State Football fan.  Leon was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt and fish and thoroughly enjoyed woodworking.   He also enjoyed taking “the girls” shopping.

Leon was a deeply devoted son.  His faith and family were the foundation of his life and his humorous, light-hearted spirit was appreciated by many.  Leon was a role model, mentor and friend who will be greatly missed

His absence in this world will be felt, but the richness with which he blessed people’s lives will never fade.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by one daughter, Jen Russell and her husband Adam and one son, Ira “Steven” Wintersteen and five grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Kara Aurand and her husband Steve of Washingtonville PA. 

A Celebration of Leon’s life will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020, at 12:00pm at Washingtonville Lutheran Church in Washingtonville with the Reverend Melody Sell officiating.  Burial will be private.   Friends will be received on Thursday evening, January 16, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00pm and on Friday morning from 10:30 – 11:30 AM at which time a Masonic Service will be conducted.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Washingtonville Lutheran Church 179 Strawberry Ridge Road, Danville PA or the Jane E Delong Memorial Hall Association 7 Church Street Washingtonville PA 17884 or the Washingtonville Volunteer Fire Company 121 Strawberry Ridge Road, Danville PA  17821

Arrangements are under the direction of the Visneski Funeral Home 42 W Mahoning Street Danville PA 17821.
