Gabriela M. Reason

Gabriela M. Reason, 41, of Danville, PA was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on Tuesday, February 18, 2020.  She was born October 31, 1978 in Zurich, Switzerland, the daughter of David Karabelnik and Sima Kappeler. 

She graduated from The Wellington School in Columbus, Ohio, then pursued her Bachelors degree in Religious Studies at Yale University. Gabriela also received a Masters of Theology degree from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia and a Masters of Social Work at The University of Pennsylvania.

She is survived by her high school sweetheart and her husband of 17 years, the Reverend Roth M. Reason, whom she married July 19, 2002.

Gabriela had been employed as a Counselor at Willow Tree Wellness and Counseling Center in Bloomsburg, PA. She also enjoyed volunteering at Northumberland Christian School.

She was a member of Redeemer Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Danville, PA where her servant heart was apparent everywhere, especially in organizing the German Club, women’s ministries, as a Sunday School Teacher, Nursery worker, and in leading numerous Bible Studies. She had the gift of hospitality and was known for her great cooking for friends and family and for fellowship meals at church. She also was active in Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) and was affiliated with the Resurrection Movement Studio.

Gabriela was an avid reader, especially of novels and thoroughly enjoyed her fellowship with Joseph Smith’s Book Club. She was a dedicated homemaker and received great joy in her role as a wife and helpmate to her husband and caring for her children whom she adored. She touched so many lives with her sweet and thoughtful presence. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Phineas, 8, and two daughters, Sophia, 12 and Nadia, 10. Also surviving is her mother and stepfather, Sima and Thomas Kappeler ; her father and step-mother, David and Marianne Karabelnik; as well as her sister Fanina Karabelnik all of Zurich, Switzerland.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Milena Kappeler.

A Celebration of Gabriela’s Life will be held Friday, February 28, 2020 at First Baptist Church, 12 Brookside Drive (Off 642 East), Danville, PA at 6:30 PM with the Reverend Stephen Payson, Chaplain at Hershey Medical Center, officiating.

Relatives and friends will be received at the church from 4:30 PM until 6:15 PM. The burial service will be private.

The family will provide flowers.  Memorial contributions in Gabriela’s memory may be made to the Montour Area Recreation Commission – Agency Fund of the Danville Area Community Foundation, payable to the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation (CSCF), memo line: MARC – Agency Fund, and mailed to CSCF, 725 W. Front St., Berwick, PA 18603.
