Dorothy Elizabeth Janaskie, 96, of
Northumberland, Pennsylvania passed peacefully into death on August 16,
2020. The daughter of Nicholas and Hazel Merolli, Dorothy was born on
September 2, 1923 in Shamokin, Pennsylvania. She was married for 61 years to
her devoted husband, Charles F. Janaskie, Jr. who preceded her in death on
May 2, 2010.
Dorothy’s family was the central focus of her
life. Her love of her brother, five sisters, children, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren knew no bounds. She was the consummate hostess of many
joyous holiday celebrations and family meals shared around her table. For
Dorothy, there was no such thing as too much sugar for her beloved
grandchildren and she never passed on the opportunity to give candy to them.
Dorothy enjoyed tending to the roses and flowers in her garden and baking
pizzelles. Dorothy found comfort in the teachings of Jesus Christ and was a
faithful member of the Catholic Church.
After graduating from Coal Township High
School, Dorothy and Charles successfully ran a home remodeling and
construction business for more than 40 years. Both Dorothy and Charles took
great pride in the many cabins they constructed. Most of all, Dorothy
enjoyed being a homemaker and building a life of love for her children.
Dorothy now joins her parents, six siblings,
husband, and her oldest son, Charles F. Janaskie III in peace in heaven. Her
family has no doubt that she and Charles III are sharing a smile and a
laugh, cruising with the top down in his convertible.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Deborah
Cochran and husband William; and her son, Paul Janaskie and wife Jennifer.
She was adored by her five grandchildren: Shawn Cochran (Vanessa), Shelby
Kaufman (Brian), Nicholas Janaskie, Amelia Janaskie, and Joseph Janaskie.
She was the proud great-grandmother of Willow, Fiona, Charlie and Genevieve;
and dearest Aunt Dot to numerous nieces and nephews.
A private funeral service will be celebrated on
August 26, 2020. Extended family and friends are requested to join in
spirit for a moment of prayer and reflection at 11:00 a.m. on August 26. A
Celebration of Life will be held at a later time for all to commemorate her
life and legacy.
