Leona Ruth Pursel

September 20, 2019

Leona Ruth Pursel, 95, formerly of Riverside PA went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 20, 2019 at Bloomsburg Care and Rehabilitation in Bloomsburg PA.  She was born April 12, 1924 in Watsontown PA the daughter of the late Allen and Olive Bitler Foust. 

She enjoyed being a part of the Danville High School Class of 1942. 

Leona was married for 72 years to James M. Pursel who preceded her in death

November 16, 2014.   They were married May 9, 1942. 

She was a member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church in Riverside PA.  Her memberships also included The Danville Moose. 

Leona was a dedicated homemaker and took great pride in her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was an avid bowler and loved playing Bingo.  She leaves behind many who are immensely thankful for her presence in their lives and inspired by her example. 

She is survived by two sons, James A. Pursel and his wife Victoria of Riverside PA and Jeffrey Scott Pursel and his companion Karen Latsha of Riverside PA and three daughters; Carol J. Fry and her husband Ronnie of Riverside PA; Debra K. Wolfe and her husband, Woody of Danville PA and Cindy L. Pursel of Riverside PA.  She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Shoemaker who passed away September 8, 1995 and one great-grandson, Cody William Mordan.  She was also preceded in death by two brothers; Kenneth and Leonard Foust. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Leona’s Life to be held Monday, September 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter's United Methodist Church 240 Sunbury Road Riverside PA with Pastor Greg Molter officiating.  Burial will be held in Odd Fellows Cemetery Danville PA.   Friends will be received from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Sunday evening at the church and from 9:45 - 10:45 AM Monday at the church.  The family will provide flowers.  Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Alex’s Lemonade Stand 111 Presidential Blvd., Suite 203, Bala Cynwyd PA  19004.
