Veda Joanne Struab

November 2, 2018

Veda Joanne Straub, 73, of Danville, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with PAH (Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension) on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at her residence.  She was born July 3, 1945 in Danville, PA; the daughter of the late William W., Sr. and Henrietta M. Wray Wilt.

Veda graduated from Danville Area High School in 1963 and from Western Union School in 1964 in Washington, New Jersey.

She is survived by her devoted husband, William Straub, Jr. whom she married on May 8, 1970. They were married for 48 years.

Veda was employed at Danville State Hospital in Medical Records from where she retired in 1995 after 30 years of service.  She also worked part-time and/or volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House of Danville, Southern Columbia school library and Danville Head start Programs.

Veda was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose and served on the Montour County Children and Youth Advisory Board.

She enjoyed cooking, dancing to the “oldies” with her husband, playing Bingo, going to the casinos and hanging out with her family. Her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with children.

In addition to her husband, Veda is survived by two daughters; Melissa Musiano of Elysburg, and Cynthia Gregory and her husband Richard of Pottsville, two step-daughters; Darla Stafford of Watsontown; and Belva Delcamp and her husband David of Berwick. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren with one on the way; and several nieces and nephews. Veda is also survived by three sisters; Donna Vitale of Danville, Patty Keppler and her husband Patrick of Danville and Norma Hinkleman and her husband Ron, of Cogan Station.

In addition to her parents, Veda is preceded in death by two brothers, William Wilt, Jr. and James Wilt; and two sisters; Helen Longenberger and Pearl Richardson; one step-daughter, Myrna Straub; two nieces, MaryLou Wiser and Debbie Reynolds; and two nephews, Richard Aucker and Lester Aucker.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Veda’s Life on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 11:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 241 East Market Street, Danville, PA 17821 with the Reverend Trevor J. Hahn officiating.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Veda’s memory to Trinity Lutheran Church, Sunday School Program, P.O. Box 417, Danville, PA 17821.
