Hazel M. Lemon

August 20, 2018

Hazel M. Lemon, 95, of Danville, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Emmanuel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Danville PA.  She was born on November 16, 1922 in Danville PA, the daughter of the late Wilbur and Katherine Foust Millard.

Hazel graduated from Danville High School in 1940.

She was employed for 30 years at the Danville State Hospital as a nurse’s aide, retiring in 1983.

Hazel was married for 41 years to A. LaRue Lemon.  They were married on June 21, 1945.

Hazel was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Danville PA where she was a member of the Friendship Circle and served as a deaconess as well as on the Flower Committee.  Hazel was well known as “Meme” not only to her grandchildren whom she adored, but also to many others who loved to visit her.  She will be warmly remembered for her smile, love of family and friends, shopping, delicious cooking and knitting. One of her greatest joys was cooking family meals and picnics at Halfway Dam with her family.  Hazel cherished her grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, Jeffrey P. Lemon and his wife Connie; three daughters; Terry Kutcher and her husband Mark; Diane Gelbaugh; and Patti Merrell and her husband Dan; all of Danville PA.  Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, William, in infancy in 1946; one brother; Howard Millard and her son-in-law, Harold Gelbaugh in 2008. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Hazel’s life on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 42 West Mahoning Street, Danville, PA with the Reverend Dawes J. Dunham First Baptist Church Danville PA officiating. Friends will be received 10:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will be held in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville, PA.
