John Francis Kane

July 20, 2017

John Francis Kane, 86, of Danville PA passed away Tuesday, July 18, at Emmanuel Nursing Center at Maria Hall, Danville PA. He was born July 2, 1931 in Wilkes-Barre PA, the son of the late Francis and Helen Purvin Kane.

 He was married for 22 years to Helen Ryan (Wildsmith) Kane who preceded him in death in 2004.   

John graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Wilkes-Barre, PA. He served as an altar boy in St. Mary’s Church for many years. He attended Wilkes College, also in Wilkes-Barre, and was honorably discharged as First Lieutenant from the United States Marine Corp. 

He was employed as a general contractor in various positions throughout his career, and retired from the Maria Joseph Manor, in Danville. 

John was a quiet man who enjoyed tinkering, woodworking, gardening, reading and participating in his church. His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his beloved wife, Helen, and bestowing small kindnesses on others whenever possible. 

He is survived by his three sons, John Jr., Paul and Raymond Kane, and six step-children, Charles Ryan, Susan Ryan, Robert Ryan, Sandra Ryan Sheppard, Joni Ryan Hales and Jane Ryan Whaley. His surviving siblings are Dolores Kane Greenfield, West Wyoming, PA and Jerry Kane, Queensbury, NY. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Donald Kane, Shirley Kane Welkey, Clair Kane Garbett, Judy Kane, and step-son William Ryan Jr. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service to be held on Friday, July 21, at 1pm at St. Joseph’s Church Cemetery on Bloom Rd., Danville, with the Reverend James Lease officiating.  

The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions are welcome to be made to Emmanuel Nursing Center 600 Schoolhouse Road Danville PA  17821.
