Hazel Fern Martin

June 19, 2017

Hazel Fern Martin, 81, of Danville PA went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at her residence.   She was born November 5, 1935 in Greensburg PA, the daughter of the late Wilfred and Hazel Viola Carr Fry.   

She received her Bachelorís and her Masterís degree in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. Upon graduation, she taught elementary school for several years in the Wilkinsburg and Loyalsock School Districts. 

She was a member of First Baptist Church Danville PA.  She volunteered with the Geisinger Medical Center Auxiliary and the Good Samaritan Mission.   She faithfully attended Silver Sneakers and enjoyed dinner meetings with the Danville/Tri-County After 5 Club.    

Fernís greatest accomplishment in life was parenting and nurturing her four children.  She was the picture of humility, warmth, love and sincerity.  Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family whom she adored. 

She is survived by three sons; Jack Martin of Lewisburg PA, Jim Martin and his wife Becky of State College PA and David Martin and his wife Terri of Hummelstown PA and one daughter, Susan OíMalley and her husband Patrick of Ellicott City MD.  Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; Nate, Claire, Olivia, Sophie, Stan, Maddie, Kyle, Nick, Catherine, Patrick, Caitlin, and Maureen.  She is also survived by one sister, Donna Lopes of Greensburg PA. 

She was preceded in death by one sister, Winnie Papier. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Fernís Life to be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church 20 Brookside Drive (off 642E) Danville, PA 17821 with the Reverend Dawes J. Dunham officiating.  Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. 

The family will provide flowers. In Fernís memory, memorial contributions may be made to The Good Samaritan Mission P.O. Box 114  Danville, PA  17821
