Gerald C. Buckley,
90, of Danville, PA, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Geisinger
Medical Center, Danville, PA. He was born April 16, 1927 in Kirkmansville,
Kentucky the son of the late Coleman and Florine Savage Buckley.
Gerald was married
for 42 years to the late Mary Ruth Buckley who preceded him in death in
1989. They were married in 1947.
He graduated from
Danville Area High School in 1945.
employed as a chemical operator at Merck and Company for 37 years where he
was instrumental in beginning the first union at that site in the early
1950ís. He was employed at Merck until his retirement in 1987.
He was a member of
the Mahoning Presbyterian Church, Danville. He was a lifetime member of the
Danville Moose and the Washies Fire and Hose Company. He celebrated 50 years
of membership with the Danville Mahoning Lodge #224, where he was awarded
the honor of Master Mason in 2012. He was also a member of the Danville
enjoyment in life was spending time with his family. He was passionate about
travel and one of his favorite memories was his trip to Europe with Mary
Ruth and good friends in 1970. He loved hunting and was proud of achieving
the Triple Trophy in the 1960ís for killing a bear, deer, and turkey in one
year. He also enjoyed fishing, farming and playing cards. In his later
years, he loved taking rides with his granddaughters to eat buckwheat cakes,
pizza or a Buckley burger at the family farm.
He is survived by
one daughter; Ann L. Calinski and her husband Peter of East Amherst, New
York and one son; Gerald R. Buckley and wife Susan of Danville, PA. Gerald
is also survived by six grandchildren; Joseph, Karen, Daniel, Diane,
Christine and Katie and one great-granddaughter; AnaLu. He is also survived
by two brothers; George and Duane Buckley and one sister; Gloria Schaeffer.
Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in
death by one brother; Marvin Buckley and one sister, Elizabeth Buckley.
and friends are invited to attend funeral services to be held on Saturday,
June 10, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Visneski Funeral Home, Inc., Ten West Mahoning
Street, Danville, PA 17821 with the Reverend Graham Rogers officiating.
Friends will be received from 9:30AM until 10:45AM. Burial will be held in
Straubís Lutheran Cemetery, Danville, PA
The family will
provide flowers. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Montour

the American Cancer Society.
