M. Irving, 91, formerly of Riverside PA, passed away peacefully on August 4,
2017 at Emmanuel Nursing Center Danville. PA She was born September 10,
1925 in Beaver Township, Columbia County the daughter of May Singley.
graduated from Bloomsburg High School and Geisinger School of Nursing Class
was married for 47 years to the Late Richard G. Irving who preceded her in
death on March 3, 1994. They were married January 18, 1947.
was employed as an RN for Geisinger Medical Center for several years. She
was also employed and volunteered with the American Red Cross in her later
was a faithful and committed member of Mahoning Presbyterian Church where
she served as an Elder, Sunday School teacher, and was a member of the
Women's Association there. She also helped with Bible School.
enjoyed cooking, gardening, and playing Bridge. As an active member of the
American Legion Band Auxiliary, she supported band activities and made
several trips to Germany with the band. She also participated actively with
the Geisinger Nurses Alumni Association and she met regularly with her
classmates from Bloomsburg High School. She loved to travel and enjoyed
listening to the American Legion Band and Sunbury Band. She often would
follow her husband with many of his band performances which she loved to
do. Betty was a dedicated wife and mother. Her passion in life was caring
for others. Her family was her greatest joy, especially her grandchildren
and great-grandchildren, whom she adored.
survived by one son, Richard Irving, Jr of Danville PA and two daughters;
Marilyn McAllister and her husband Steve of Georgia and Nancy Whelan and her
husband John of Danville PA. Also surviving are three grandchildren;
Matthew Jones, Laura Broshears and Sarah Whelan as well as two
great-grandchildren; Blake Jones and Enzo Broshears. She is also survived
by one cousin, George Schell of Selinsgrove PA.
