William D. "Don" Deitrick

William D. "Don" Deitrick, Sr. 86, of Danville PA passed away Friday, April 22, 2016 at Geisinger Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall in Danville PA.   He was born November 23, 1929  in Danville PA the son of the late Walter C. Deitrick Sr. and Mary Ellen Gulliver Deitrick. 

Don was married for 22 years to his late beloved wife Margaret G. Reeder  who preceded him in death on August 4, 2012.  They were married November 24, 1990, at Trinity Lutheran Church Danville PA.

 He graduated from Danville High School in 1948, where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. Don also played basketball and baseball for the Danville State Hospital, and  played and coached in the Berwick YMCA for several years after graduation.  He started the first Adult Softball League in Danville and served as President from 1965-1966.

 Don  served his country  in the United States Air Force. 

 Don worked for Merck and Co for over 25 years as a chemical operator, and retired in 1992.  He was President of the Union Oil Chemical and Atomic Workers International Union(1978 to 1982).   He was president of the OCAW Drug and Cosmetic Council in 1981. 

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Danville PA.   His other memberships included the Danville Elks, Past Worthy President of the Danville Eagles #838 in 1982, Danville Moose Club and Friendship Fire Company.  

His greatest passion in life was accompanying his wife as they traveled to  the Mid-west and Western states, going out to dinner and going to casinos.  Don was a faithful supporter of his grandchildren watching them play various sports.   

He is survived by two sons: William Deitrick Jr. and his wife Shirley of Danville, Robert Deitrick and his wife Jan of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and one daughter Beth Anne Snyder of Danville.  Also surviving are six grandchildren: Renee Deitrick, Kelly(Matthew) Beltz, Kimberly(Chris) Fleming, Jonathan Deitrick, Shelby Snyder and fiancée Zeb Butler, and Amber Snyder and his four great- grandchildren: William Beltz, Evan Fleming, Kate Fleming, and Bristol Butler.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law Linda Deitrick.  Also surviving is one stepson: Scott A. Reilly and wife Dusty of Muncy and three step-daughters: Toni Toomey and husband Pat of Lancaster, Jan Cosgrove and husband John of Lancaster, and Lori  Reilly of Danville. He is also survived by his 10 step-grandchildren: Tami and husband J.B. Newborg, Sabrina Roark, Lauren Cosgrove, Carey Raleigh, Scott Reilly II and wife Rebecca, Nicole Diehl, Adam Woll, Jessica Tom, Aaron Tom and Makenzie Hummer and his seven step-great grandchildren: Nathan Hengst and wife Heidi, Laila Colon, Nick Raleigh, Zachary, Adyson and Chloe (Reilly), Braylin Foresman and one step-great great grandchild: Liam Hengst. 

 He was preceded in death by three brothers,  Walter C. Deitrick Jr., Robert J. Deitrick, Dr. Richard Deitrick, one sister,  Jean Pehowic and step-grandaughter Becky Catterall. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services to be held Wednesday, April 27,  2016  at 11:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church 209 Church Street Danville PA with the Reverend Trevor J. Hahn  officiating.  Burial will follow in Columbia Hill Cemetery Danville PA.  Friends will be received from 9:45 AM until 11:15 AM in the small chapel of the church.  The family will provide flowers.  Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
