Stephen A. "Steve" Venarchick

January 21, 2016

Stephen A. "Steve" Venarchick, 87, formerly of 1826 Bloom Road, Danville, PA passed away Thursday evening, January 21, 2016 at Emmanuel Nursing Center at Maria Joseph. He was born May 11, 1928 in Danville, PA, the son of the late Petro and Mary (Demko) Venarchick.  

He attended Danville Area Schools.  

Steve served his country in the United States Army as a Corporal during the Korean War. 

He was married for 59 years to Agnes E. Beyer Venarchick who preceded him in death on March 29, 2013. They were married March 6, 1954. 

Steve was employed at the Danville State Hospital as Head of the Security Department and as Fire Marshal retiring on January 28, 1986. 

He was a very active member of the East End Fire Company where he served as a Firefighter and with the Fire Police. Steve was also a member of The Danville Moose. 

He enjoyed going to lunch at Danville Sub Shop with his buddies and walking downtown to socialize. Steve loved reminiscing about growing up on the farm. He was also an animal lover. 

Although they did not have any children, Steve was like a father figure to numerous nieces and nephews. He is survived by one sister, Olga "Lovie" Derk of Elizabethtown, Kentucky.  

Steve was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services to be held Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at 1:00PM at Visneski Funeral Home, Inc., 10 West Mahoning Street, Danville, PA 17821 with Reverend Jean Eckrod of Salem United Church of Christ Coal Township, PA officiating. Burial will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville, PA. Friends will be received from 11:30am until the time of service. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 40.
