Let nature take its course.” On March 14, 2016, Donna, as she was known,
died peacefully at Maria Hall Hospice surrounded by family who loved her
was born in Kulpmont, PA on December 26, 1924 to the parents of Stanley and
Martha (Yakutis) Rutkowski. She was of Lithuanian descent, the seventh
daughter of eight girls. Donna graduated from Kulpmont High School in 1942
and moved to Brooklyn, NY to attend nursing school at Kings County Hospital.
After graduation, she continued her thirty-three year nursing career at
Kings County, began as a staff RN, earned a BS in Nursing Education at
Hunter College, and ended as a supervisor. While at Kings County, Theodore
(Teddy) Bauer was admitted to her ward with appendicitis and, after
discharge, returned to ask her on a date. They were married 6 months later
on October 1, 1950.
and Teddy owned a 32 foot cabin cruiser and spent many summer vacations
traveling to various ports along the Eastern Seaboard. They were members of
the Bergen Beach Yacht Club in Brooklyn. After retiring, they moved to
Little Egg Harbor, NJ in 1976. Teddy passed away in 1984. Donna continued to
live in Little Egg Harbor enjoying the many senior clubs and her favorite
place to play the slots, Trump Taj Mahal. She traveled extensively with
family and friends throughout the world. At the age of 76 she visited the
farm where her father grew up in Simnas, Lithuania and discovered she had a
living 99 year-old uncle.
April 2012, she decided to move to Vintage Knolls Assisted Living to be
close to her niece Janice Terry-Mathes. They were more than aunt/niece, they
were best friends and spent many hours talking, laughing, casinoing, dining
out, and traveling. She was a caring, loving, joyful, and fun person to be
around. She improved the lives of those fortunate to know her. In the end,
she left this life as she lived it, on her own terms.
was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters – Agnes, Stella,
Mary, Adella, Helen, Albina (Binnie), and Millie. She is survived by 8
nieces and 6 nephews and will be missed by many friends and family members.

of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 12:30 PM
at St. Joseph Catholic Church 18 Center Street Danville with the Reverend
James E. Lease as celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Lithuanian
Cemetery Mount Carmel PA. Friends will be received from 6:00 - 8:00 PM
