Theresa Colette Liberda Amarante, 84

September, 5, 2015

Theresa C. Amarante (“Mrs. A”), 84, of 22 Tower View Circle Danville PA passed from this life to receive from Our Lord her eternal reward on Friday morning, September 4, 2015. Born in Brooklyn on March 6, 1931 to Polish immigrants, the late Michael and Rozalia Sarkowicz Liberda, Theresa grew up during the Great Depression, rich in love and faith. In her youth, she learned English as her second language and became a secretary at a local Brooklyn business. At the frequented Horn and Hardart’s Automat she met a young, hard-working Italian boy, Michael Amarante, whom she wed on Sept. 2, 1950 and loved with all her heart until his death on May 18, 2009.

In 1974, they left the city with their four children for a rural life outside of Danville PA where their home was always open to family and friends. Throughout the 80’s, Theresa was fondly known as “Mrs. A” by students, faculty, and staff at Danville Area High School, where she resumed her career as a secretary. In the mid-90’s, she and Mike retired to enjoy the fruits of their love and labors.

As a devoted Christian, Theresa gave grateful witness to the gospel of the Lord. With her hands and feet she served Christ and His Church, always ready with a kind word and genuine love. Theresa was a member of St Joseph Church since her arrival in Danville. She served as a greeter and in her latter years, she regularly visited the homebound and brought them Holy Communion and spent many hours in prayer and adoration before Our Lord, truly present in the Blessed Sacrament.

She is survived by her daughter, Colette Saufley and her husband John of Hummelstown PA, and three sons: Michael Amarante of Cedar Rapids IA, Phillip Amarante and his wife Susan of Danville PA, and Gregory Amarante and his wife Ellen of Lewisburg PA. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: Jessica and Holly; Joseph, Rachel, Joanna and Joshua; Monica, Peter and Theresa; Rachael and Phillip.

Relatives and friends will be received on Monday, Sept. 7th, 6:00-7:30pm at Saint Joseph Church, 18 E. Center St., Danville PA with a Remembrance Service beginning at 7:30pm, or on Tuesday, Sept 8th, 9:00-9:45am at Saint Joseph Church, with Holy Mass beginning at 10:00am. A Rite of Committal will be held on Saturday, Sept 12, 10:30am at All Saints Cemetery, 172 All Saints Road, Elysburg PA 17824.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Good Samaritan Mission 327 Ferry Street, Danville, PA 17821 or Saint Joseph Church Memorial Fund
