Marjorie Ruth (Vincent) Bassett

Marjorie Ruth (Vincent) Bassett, 87, of Danville PA went home to be with her Lord Tuesday, December 1, 2015 while visiting the home of her brother in Puerto Rico.  She was born April 27, 1928 in Danville PA the daughter of the late Robert T. and Irene R. Blue Vincent.


She graduated from Danville High School in 1946 and received her degree in Nursing from University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in 1950.


She was married for 60 years to Leonard Carl Bassett who preceded her in death on November 22, 2010.  They were married October 22, 1950.


Marge was employed as a registered nurse at Geisinger Medical Center and for

 Columbia Montour Home Health, from where she retired.


She was an active and faithful member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church Riverside PA where she served on the Leadership Team, was involved with the Ice Cream Socials, Donut Days and the Drama Team.  Her spiritual life was abundant being involved in numerous Bible Studies and participating in countless prayer meetings.  Marge was also very active in The Jubilee Kitchen.  She was a faithful and longstanding Reservation Assistant for the Danville/Tri-County After 5 Club where she participated in numerous Stonecroft Bible Studies. Marge was the chairperson and treasurer for the High School Class of 1946.  She was a volunteer for the American Heart Association and volunteered with the American Red Cross Blood Drives.


Marge thoroughly enjoyed baking cookies with her devoted friends,Erma Walter and Helen Smith for over 60 years. After baking them and wrapping them, they were personally delivered to many loved ones.  Her other enjoyments included traveling, her yearly vacations to the beach with her family and shopping. 

She spent countless hours in her gardens and she loved to cook for her family whom she adored.  Marge will be well remembered by many for her listening ear and her encouragement.  With all of life’s challenges that she experienced and those that were shared with her, she would always respond with her beautiful smile saying, “God is good.”


She is survived by four sons; Jerry S. Bassett and his wife Janet of Quakertown PA; Gary T. Bassett and his wife Brenda of Rhinebeck NY, Daniel C. Bassett and his wife Susan Edgren of Collegeville PA and Scott V. Bassett and his wife Lori of Mountaintop PA and one daughter, Gayann L. Hornberger and her husband Len of Bloomsburg PA and her son-in-law, Kenneth E. Roush of Williamsport PA.    She was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Roush in 2009.   She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.  Also surviving are two brothers; Thomas Vincent and his wife Gigi of Puerto Rico and Spencer Vincent and his wife MaryAnn of Hughesville PA and two sisters; Emily Curry of Danville PA and Natalie Levesque of Waterbury CT.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Vincent, Jr. and James Vincent.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Marge’s Life to be held Saturday, December 19, at 12:00 Noon at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church 240 Sunbury Road Riverside PA with her pastor the Reverend Dr. Donald N. Hurley officiating.  Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.  Friends will be received from 10:30 AM until 11:45 AM at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to Geisinger Columbia Montour Hospice 410 Glenn Avenue Suite 200  Bloomsburg PA  17815.
