F. Bassett, 94, formerly of 16 Rushtown Road Danville PA passed away Monday,
January 12, 2015 at Nottingham Village Nursing Center Northumberland PA.
was born January 23, 1920 in Rush Township, PA the daughter of the late
Robert J. and Ellen Jane Delong Forney.
graduated from Danville High School in 1937. After high school, she
thoroughly enjoyed working at J.J. Newberry in Danville PA.
was married to her husband of 63 years, Russell F. Bassett who preceded her
in death February 2, 2006. They were married May 27, 1942.
was a member of the former Rushtown Methodist Church Rush Township PA where
she taught Sunday School and led youth groups and later a member of St.
Peter's United Methodist Church Riverside PA.
was an excellent baker and she loved gardening, especially caring for all
her flower gardens. She was a 4H leader and helped many girls learn to sew.
Esther loved to read and do crossword puzzles. She and Russ had a love of
the game Scrabble, and for the last 30 years of Russell's life they had a
date every evening with the Scrabble board. Above all, Esther was a devoted
wife, mother and grandmother to her family whom she adored.
survived by one daughter, Jane B. Herman and her husband Kenneth of Danville
PA. Also surviving is one grandson, Mark D. Bassett and his wife Amber of
Bloomsburg PA and one granddaughter, Marcie H. Riebe and her husband Peter
of Scranton PA. She is also survived by one great-grandson, Ty David
Bassett. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Marie K Bassett of
was preceded in death by her son, David E. Bassett in 2011. Esther was the
last member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by five
brothers; Corey, James, Robert, Carl and Millard and three sisters; Natalie
Swartz, Bertha Pick and Mabel Scheetz.

16, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 West Mahoning Street
Danville PA with the Reverend Dr. Donald N. Hurley officiating. Burial will
follow in Rush Presbyterian Cemetery Snydertown Road Danville PA. Friends
will be received from 9:30 AM to the time of the service. Memorial
