Elizabeth DePew Sandison Carter

November 2, 2015

Elizabeth DePew Sandison Carter, 97 of 137 W. Diehl Road, Danville, PA entered into rest Sunday afternoon, November 1, 2015 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.  For the past eight months, Sandy was a resident of Grandview Health Home, Inc. in Danville. Sandy was born July 20, 1918 in Nyack, New York, a daughter of the late George Henry and Maude (DePew) Sandison. 

She graduated from Nyack High School.  Sandy was also a graduate of The Scudder School of Business (NYU) in New York City. 

In June of 1944, she married Mason N. Carter, who preceded her in death in April of 1978. 

Sandy was last employed at Farleigh Dickinson University, Rutherford, New Jersey until her retirement.  

She was an active member of Rutherford United Methodist Church and loved spending time with her grandchildren and doing volunteer work.  

Thirty years ago, Sandy moved to Danville and lived with her daughter and son-in-law. She joined Trinity United Church of Christ and was an active member.  Sandy also belongs to California Grange.  She was a lifetime member of The Blauvelt Society.  Sandy loved her church family, her many friends, her neighbors and family dogs.  

She is survived by one daughter; Judy Knouse and her husband Bobbie of Danville and one son; Mason North Carter of Carlstadt, NJ.  Sandy is also survived by four grandchildren; William Carter and his wife Renata of Carlstadt, NJ; MaryElizabeth Brenner and her husband Michael of Rutherford, NJ and identical twins; Mason Carter, III of Philadelphia, PA and John Carter of Brooklyn, NY. Sandy is also survived by two great-grandchildren; Morgan and Zachary Carter of Carlstadt, NJ.  Also surviving are two sisters; Dorothy S. Lloyd of Norwich, NY and Florence S. Williams of S. New Berlin, NY.  

Family and friends are welcome to attend a Celebration of Sandy's Life on Thursday, November 5th, 2015 at 11:30AM at Trinity United Church of Christ/Strawberry Ridge, 1 W. Diehl Road, Danville with her Pastor Shawn McNett officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery at Strawberry Ridge.  

The family will provide flowers. Memorial Contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ at Strawberry Ridge.
