Douglas Leisenring Crowl

December 8, 2015

Douglas Leisenring Crowl, 81, of Danville, PA, formerly of Deep River, Connecticut, passed away Tuesday morning, December 8, 2015 at his residence. He was born December 1, 1934 in Danville, PA, the son of the late Sylvester and Charlotte (Leisenring) Crowl. 

Douglas is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Janet (Dancey) Crowl whom he married February 2, 1957. 

Douglas graduated from Ralpho Township High School in 1952 and attended Penn State University.  

He served his country with the U.S. Air Force as a navigator and pilot rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.  

Douglas was later employed by Pan American Airways and traveled the world. 

He was active in church and civic activities throughout his life, serving on the Valley Regional School Board and Board of Finance in Connecticut.  Douglas was a member of the Essex Congregational Church of Essex, Connecticut and Grove Presbyterian Church of Danville, PA.   

He was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life.  Douglas' greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter; Nancy Swanson and her husband Steven of Virginia and one son; Charles Crowl of Asbury Park, New Jersey.  Douglas is also survived by three grandchildren; Andrew Swanson and his wife Leslie; Christopher Crowl and his wife Anna, and Samantha Swanson and her fiancée Stuart Williams.

He was preceded in death by one sister; Joanne Reber. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Douglas' Life to be held Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at Grove Presbyterian Church, 330 Bloom Road, Danville, PA with the Reverend Dr. Robert J. Andrews officiating.  Friends will be received from 10:30AM until 11:45AM in the Great Room at the church. Burial will be private in the Memorial Garden.  

The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project Memorial Fund 4899 Belfort Road Suite 300 Jacksonville, FL 32256     or Grove Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
