John Paul Thomas, 43

John Paul Thomas, 43, of Danville PA passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Geisinger Medical Center Danville PA.  He was born August 9, 1970 in Shamokin PA the son of John and Eleanor (Treibley) Meyer of Danville PA.

He attended West Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Shamokin Area High School in 1989 and attended Gannon University.  While in school he was employed as a stock clerk for Jamesway Corporation.  In late 1989, he worked at Reading Anthracite Company in the Quality Control Lab and later was employed by Northumberland County in the Maintenance Department. 

John served his country by joining the United States Marines in 1994. He left for Parris Island, subsequently being  promoted to Lance Corporal and then receiving an Honorable Discharge.

He was single and of the Roman Catholic faith.  John loved to travel to Mexico and Central America where he took many photographs.  He gave history lessons and shared his pictures of the many places he traveled to and had planned to write a journal incorporating all of his experiences.  He had back-packed through the area for the last three months. 

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Joanie (Thomas) Broskley of Langhorne PA and two older brothers; Michael and Patrick Thomas of the Shamokin area.  Also surviving is one aunt, Louise Treibley; his cousin, Karyn Treibley; a niece, Kristen Thomas; three nephews; Michael and Wade Thomas and Mark Strohecker; three grand-nieces, one grand-nephew and several other cousins.  He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Dolores (Rosen) Treibley and his Uncle Don Treibley.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church 18 E. Center Street Danville PA with the Reverend Michael Liacha presiding and the Reverend  Dominick Mammarella, Homilist.  Burial will follow in St. Edward's Cemetery in Shamokin PA.  Friends will be received from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM in St. Hubert Chapel at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions honoring John may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
