James L. Scanlon

December 14, 2014

James L. Scanlon, 95, formerly of 611 North 5th Street Sunbury PA passed away Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Emmanuel Nursing Center at Maria Joseph Danville PA.  He was born June 5, 1919 in Philadelphia PA the son of the late James L. and Helen Rogers Scanlon. 

He graduated from North Catholic High School in Philadelphia PA in 1938. 

He was married for 62 years to the late Grace P. Metz Scanlon who preceded him in death September 6, 2009.  They were married November 23, 1946. 

He served his country in the United States Army as a sergeant as a medic during World War II in Germany.   

Mr. Scanlon was self-employed and the owner of a floor maintenance company in Sunbury PA for 35 years, retiring in 1985. 

He was an avid golfer and Philadelphia Phillies baseball fan.  Among his greatest enjoyments in life was spending time with his children, grandchildren and his dogs. 

He is survived by one son James C. Scanlon Sr. and his wife Joanne of Clarks Summit PA and one daughter Sally A. Martin and her husband Thomas of Frederick MD.  Also surviving are five grandchildren; Colleen Mullally, James C. Scanlon, Jr., Ann Marie Ward, Karen Ghani and Kelly Martin, M.D. and five great-grandchildren; Mina Ghani, Benjamin and Zachary Ward, Liam and Dylan Mullally and Luke Scanlon. Also surviving is one sister, Rita Kennedy. 

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, William Scanlon and two sisters; Mary and Helen Scanlon.  

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to held Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church 18 E. Center Street Danville PA with the Reverend Tri M. Luong as celebrant.  Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery Elysburg PA.   Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Nursing Center at Maria Joseph 600 Schoolhouse Road Danville PA 17821.
