Helen H. Rhawn

Helen H. Rhawn, 97, of 208 Oak Street Danville PA passed away peacefully Saturday morning, January 11, 2014 at Geisinger-Bloomsburg Healthcare Center in Bloomsburg PA.  She was born October 14, 1916 in Danville PA, the daughter of the late Stuart and Laura Pursel Hartman. 

She graduated from Danville High School in 1934 and received a teaching certificate from Bloomsburg Normal School in 1936.  Helen received her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Bloomsburg State College in 1957. 

She was married to her husband of  43 years,  Robert J. Rhawn,  who preceded her in death in 1984.  They were married August 15, 1941. 

Helen was an active and dedicated member of Grove Presbyterian Church for over 60 years.  She and her husband served as Youth Group leaders and were involved in the Young Couples Club.  She also served as a deacon and an elder as well as singing in the choir, being a greeter and an usher.  Helen was a member of the Women of the Grove.  She was a member of the church quilting group and kept the bulletin board at the church up to date with pictures and articles of the activities of the church families.  Helen ironed communion linens for 40 years and also visited area nursing homes and shut-ins for as long as she could drive.  Helen was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the PSEA, NEA, PSERS and the Golden Agers. 

She taught for five years at the One Room Schoolhouse in Montour Township PA and  was a dental assistant for Dr. Stevenson in Danville PA.  Helen was a well known and dedicated 2nd Grade teacher who was loved by many of her students.  She retired from the Danville School District after teaching 32 years,  but was not forgotten by so many of the students whose lives she impacted in such a positive way. 

Helen was an avid worldwide traveler and especially enjoyed visiting numerous National Parks alongside her husband.  She was a Phillies baseball fan and loved to do crewel work. 

She is survived by her daughter, Linda R. Neddoff-Weckter and her husband Wallace of Danville PA.  Also surviving is one grandson, Robert Neddoff of Philadelphia PA and one granddaughter, Ann Neddoff of East Norriton PA. She is also survived by one brother, Stuart L. Hartman of Danville PA and many nieces and nephews.  Helen was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Helen's life  to be held Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Grove Presbyterian Church 330 Bloom Street Danville PA with the Reverend Dr. Robert J. Andrews officiating.  Burial will be private.  Friends will be received in the Great Room of the church from 1:30 PM until 2:45 PM. The family will provide flowers.
