Chester S. Getty

November 20, 2014

Chester S. Getty of Lewisburg, PA died on the morning of Sunday, November 16, 2014. Chet - as his friends and family called him - was born October 18, 1917, the son of Walter and Mame Getty.

He was married for 70 years to Betty Hope Getty who preceded him in death on May 29, 2009.  They were married July 28, 1939.

After graduating from Catawissa High School, Chet attended Williamson Trade School in Media, PA. He completed training as a skilled wood pattern maker and practiced his trade at Kennedy Van Saun Manufacturing. Later, as a general contractor, he constructed homes and other buildings, including the Trinity United Methodist Church in Danville.

Chet's life-long fondness for horses and dogs began when he was a boy growing up on his family's farm outside Catawissa, PA. He often reminisced about his dog, Collie - with whom Chet shared ice cream - and a horse named Pet - who was Chet's partner in keeping cows out of the apple orchard. Throughout life, Chet loved socializing with family and sharing stories with friends.

He is survived by his daughters Linda Hoover - and husband, John - of Tilghman, MD and Gail Stan of Lewisburg, PA. Additionally, Chet is survived by three grandchildren: Elizabeth (Hoover) von Tolle, John Hoover, and Matt Stan, as well as three great-grandchildren: Jake, Alec, and Caroline Hoover.  Chet was preceded in death by his granddaughter Tracy Hoover.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside memorial service to be held Monday, November 24, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Elan Memorial Park, 5595 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, PA.  The service will be led by Reverend C. Rayvon Hilliard and Reverend Ronald French.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 306 Lombard Avenue, Danville, PA.
