Richard G. "Rick" Zerfing, 64, of 165 Cherokee Road Danville PA,
unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 7, 2013.
He was born June 7, 1949 in Sandusky, Ohio the son of the late Richard C.
and Arlene June Breckbill Zerfing.
He attended Danville Schools through 11th grade and graduated in 1967 from
Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School in Scotch Plains NJ. He graduated from
the University of Tennessee in Knoxville TN with a Bachelor's Degree in
History Education and began teaching high school history in Fairview TN.
Rick was employed 20 years by the Federated Insurance Companies as a Senior
Marketing Representative, retiring in 2005. During his employment there, he
led the company nationwide in Life Insurance sales. While there, he also
served on the Leadership Council and the President's Council. Recently, he
was self-employed as an independent insurance representative for
Donner-Farber and Associates until his death.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Danville and had also attended
Christ Wesleyan Church in Milton PA. He was a Danville Little League girls
softball coach and was also the high school girls softball coach for a
couple of years at Meadowbrook Christian School in Milton PA. Rick enjoyed
being outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, enjoying several big game
hunting trips to Montana. He enjoyed traveling with his family and was a
devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by the love of his life, best friend and wife of 38 years,
Melissa Pitts Zerfing whom he married August 24, 1975 in Brentwood
Tennessee. Also surviving are his four daughters; Laura Lehman and her
husband Matt of Conshohocken, PA; Christy Dietz and her husband Rick of
Hershey, PA; Kate Zerfing and Rebekah Zerfing; both at home. He is also
survived by two granddaughters; Aviana and Madelyn Lehman. Also surviving
is one sister, Julie A. Zerfing Fudge and her husband Lawrence of Myrtle
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Rick's Life to
be held Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 1:30 PM at First Baptist Church 20
Brookside Drive Danville PA (Off 642 East) with the Reverend Dr. Harry H.
Wonderland officiating assisted by Reverend Dawes Dunham. Friends will be
received at the church from 11:00-1:15PM. Burial will be private in
Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist
Church Memorial Fund or The Gideons International PO Box 140800 Nashville
