Joan L. Pick, 74

September 23, 2013

Joan L. Pick, 74, of 2240 Snydertown Road Danville PA went home to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, September 22, 2013 at her residence.  She was born August 17, 1939 in Centre Township, Snyder County, the daughter of the late Russell and Esther Carnahan Hackenberg

She graduated from Hassinger Grammar School and Middleburg High School in 1956. 

Joan was employed by Kinney Shoe in Beaver Springs for 7 years and by the Danville School District as a library aide for many years, from where she retired.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Danville PA where she served faithfully on the Martha Committee, in the Senior Choir and loved to help in the kitchen with many church dinners.  Joan was an active member of the Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class.

Joan was an avid reader and thoroughly enjoyed traveling.  Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and with her grandchildren, whom she adored.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Boyd E. Pick whom she married July 2, 1966.   She is also survived by one son, Robert L. Pick and his wife Shari of Sterling VA and one daughter, Vickory E. Sawyer of Danville PA.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren and one great grandson.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Gloria Ann Hackenberg.

A Celebration of Joan's Life will be held Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Danville 20 Brookside Drive Danville PA (Off Route 642 E) with the Reverend Dr. Harry H. Wonderland officiating assisted by the Reverend Dawes Dunham. Burial will be held in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Middleburg PA.  Friends will be received from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Mission Fund 20 Brookside Drive Danville PA 17821.  Arrangements are under the direction of Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 W Mahoning Street Danville PA.  www.visneski.com.
