Ruth G. Stankevich,
89, of 50 First Street, Danville, formerly a long-time resident of
Riverside, PA, passed into the loving arms of our Lord on Sunday, November
17, 2013. Born September 25, 1924 in Montour County, she was the daughter of
William Roy Gable and Catherine Mae Wertman Gable.
Ruth was married on June 20, 1942 to Henry Peter
Stankevich who preceded her passing in 1976.
Ruth graduated in
1942 from West Hazleton High School. She was employed as a
designer/seamstress at Danville Manufacturing for many years and retired
from Hanover Brands. Ruth kept busy after retirement as Sexton in her
church. As a devoted member of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church since the
late 1920s, Ruth taught Sunday school for several years and served on vestry
and altar guild. She had an excellent singing voice and sang in the church
choir for several decades. Ruth was a long-standing member of the Danville
Garden Club and Golden Agers.
She loved playing
games and regularly played Pinochle in various card clubs. Our momís faith
was unwavering and her love was unconditional. Her greatest pride and
passion was her children, grandchildren and especially her
great-grandchildren. Mom enjoyed so many things in life. As a professional
seamstress, she made clothes and wedding gowns for family and friends. She
had a bountiful love for gardening, her flowers and crafting. She was rich
with friendships and loved traveling with family.
Ruth is survived by
her children, Tommy and wife Lois, Walkersville, MD; Kathy and husband
George Smith, Danville; and Cindy and husband Paul Szili, Holtwood, PA. Also
surviving are her three grandchildren: Trisha, Jamie, and Shannon; and her
four great-grandchildren: Chase, Chantel, Mason, and Jaxx. She was the
last member of her immediate family being preceded in death by her brothers
and sisters: Gilbert, James, Grace, Pearl, Mary, and Darlis.
Relatives and friends
are invited to attend a Memorial Service to be held on Friday, November 22
at 11:00 a.m. in Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, 120 E. Market Street,
Danville, officiated by the Reverend Nancy Shank. In lieu of flowers, Ruth
asked that memorial contributions be made to Christ Memorial Episcopal
Church, P.O. Box 363, Danville, PA 17821.
