Charles Eltringham, 73, of 240 2nd Avenue Sunbury, PA, ended his
journey in this life and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday
morning, January 17, 2012 at his residence. Charles was born on October 15,
1938 at Shamokin Area Community Hospital, the son of the late Sydney R. and
Mildred (Dapra) Eltringham.
1957, he graduated from Coal Township High School and then enlisted and
served three years of active duty in the United States Army. He received an
honorable discharge in 1959. He went on to graduate from Goldey-Beacom
College of Wilmington, DE in 1975 with an Associate Degree in Business
survived by his wife of 55 years, Cathleen S. Curran Eltringham. They were
married November 3, 1956 at the First Baptist Church of Shamokin with Rev.
Charles Bowser officiating.
Charles was employed by General Motors in Wilmington, DE for 20 years and
the Selinsgrove Center in Selinsgrove, PA for 17 years.
Charles was a member of the First Baptist Church in Danville and served as a
trustee and an usher. He was also an active volunteer with the American Red
Cross and traveled to New Orleans and Mississippi to help rebuild
communities as they recovered from Hurricane Katrina. He was also an active
member of the Sunbury YMCA. His greatest joys in life were reading the
Bible and spending time with his beloved family. He also enjoyed reading
about the Civil War. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia
Eagles fan. Charles loved traveling up and down the East Coast with his
loving wife and having coffee with the guys at the Sunbury YMCA “solving all
the world’s problems”. He will be remembered by his wife, children and
grandchildren as a fun-loving husband, father and Pap.
survived by five children and their spouses; Charles Eltringham of Currie,
NC; Charlotte McDonald of Montandon, PA; Kevin and Michelle Eltringham of
Coal Township, PA; Cathy Taylor of Coal Township, PA; Rebekah and Scott
DePinto of Bristol, VT, and Martin and Erin Eltringham of Sunbury, PA. He is
also survived by 15 grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff Eltringham,
Lindsay Eltringham, Raymond Eltringham, Kevin-eric Eltringham, Erica and Tom
Schaeffer, KaSandra Eltringham, Amanda and Gary Edmondson, Kristen Taylor,
Nathan and Alicia Taylor, Matthew Taylor, Brian DePinto, Gabrielle DePinto,
Madalyn DePinto, Evan Eltringham, Danielle Eltringham; and seven great
grandchildren. Also surviving are six siblings and their spouses; Florence
Hallman, Robert and Mary Ann Eltringham, Sydney and Julie Ann Eltringham,
Richard and Joan Eltringham, Linda and Richard LeBoon, and Martin and
preceded in death by his son Brian Keith Eltringham, his sister Edith
Eltringham and his brother Louis Eltringham.
Relatives and friends will be received Friday evening at the church from
6:00 PM – 8:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:45 AM - 10:45 AM. Funeral services
will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at First Baptist
Church of Danville, located at 20 Brookside Drive, Danville, PA (Off 642
East) with his pastor, the Reverend Dr. Harry H. Wonderland officiating. A
private burial will be held on Monday at Odd Fellows Cemetery on Trevorton
Road located in Shamokin, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made to the First Baptist Church of Danville at 20 Brookside Drive,
Danville, PA 17821; The Sunbury YMCA at P.O. Box 390 Sunbury, PA 17801or the
American Red Cross at 30 N. 5th Street Sunbury, PA 17801.
