Joseph H. Morrall, 97,
formerly of Riverside PA passed away Wednesday morning, May 4, 2011 at
Riverwoods in Lewisburg PA. He was born June 30, 1913 in Riverside PA the
son of the late Wesley and Sophia Shannon Morrall.
He graduated from Danville
High School in 1932. After high school, Joe followed his dream to become a
pilot. His first flight was on January 24, 1932 and he obtained his private
pilotís license on April 26, 1932, after which his father bought him his
first plane. In 1940, Joe taught college students how to fly at Lock
Haven Airport, and later went to the Naval Air Station in Memphis, TN., to
keep the planes in good flying condition. After the war he returned to
Riverside PA where he worked at Merck and Company until he and his brother
Edwin bought a lumber yard together which was called the South Danville
Planing Mill Company. Joe retired and sold the business in 1975.
Joe was an active member of
St. Peterís United Methodist Church where he served as the church financial
secretary for 30 years. He was a 50 year member of the Danville-Mahoning
Lodge No. 224 F & AM. Joe, along with his wife, loved to travel together
visiting Israel, Alaska and Hawaii, in addition to traveling around the
continental US and Canada.
He was preceded in death by
his wife of 74 years, Martha Young Morrall, on March 9, 2011. They were
married June 24, 1936.
He is survived by several
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Edwin and
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services to be held on
Friday, May 6, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 W Mahoning
Street Danville PA with the Rev. Dr. Donald N. Hurley officiating. Burial
will be private in Mt. Vernon Cemetery Riverside PA. Memorial contributions
