Dorothy R. “Dorrie” Cutler, 85

July 25, 2011

Dorothy R. “Dorrie” Cutler, 85, of 2000 Jay Street Danville PA was promoted to glory on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Columbia-Montour Home Hospice at Maria Hall Danville PA. She was born June 11, 1926 in West Pittston PA the daughter of the late D. Elwood and Dorothy V. Frey Reese.

Joyously awaiting a reunion in Heaven was her husband of 60 years, Aymar “Bud” Cutler who preceded her in death June 1, 2011. They were married June 10, 1950.

She graduated from Farmingdale High School in Farmingdale Long Island NY in 1944 and from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1950 as a Registered Nurse. She also attended Bloomsburg University from 1970-1972.  Dorrie was employed by Bell Telephone in Farmingdale Long Island NY and in Nanticoke PA.  Her nursing career included employment at Geisinger Medical Center as a floor nurse and nursing instructor from 1967-1973, serving as a Missionary RN in Pakistan with World Venture from 1974-1978, and as a nursing instructor at Danville Area Practical Nursing School from 1978-1980. Dorrie was also employed by Danville Family Practice as an RN and practice manager, retiring in 1983. 

Dorrie was a very active member of First Baptist Church Danville PA where she served faithfully as Chairman of the Missions Committee.  She also enjoyed being a member of the Senior Choir at the church. Dorrie also served as the secretary of the Federated Missionary Society of Montour County for three years. 

Her other memberships included The Danville Community Singers, Danville Community Players, Newcomers Club of Danville PA and the Welsh Society.  Dorrie was active in the Danville Christian Women’s Club serving as a Prayer Advisor, Friendship Bible Coffee Leader and Coordinator.  She enjoyed volunteering at the Food Bank and the Heart Fund.  She was also a Laubach Literacy Tutor.  Dorrie’s greatest joy in her life was spending time with her family and her church family.

She is survived by four sons; Jeffrey A. Cutler and his wife Vera of Mertztown PA, Steven W. Cutler and his wife Susan of Lititz PA, William A. Cutler of Tampa FL and Daniel L. Cutler and his wife Judyanne of New Zealand.  She is also survived by six grandchildren; Casia, Curtis, Lindsey, Brandon, Leah and Maeghan and four great-grandchildren; Elijah, Isaiah, Salem and Makayla.  She is also survived by three brothers:  David Reese of Nanticoke PA, Seph Reese of Salem, Oregon and Miles Reese of Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Dorrie’s life to be held Wednesday evening, July 27, 2011 at 7:00 PM at First Baptist Church 20 Brookside Drive (Off of Route 642 East) Danville PA with the Reverend Dr. Harry H. Wonderland officiating assisted by the pastoral staff of the church.  Burial will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at Edgehill Cemetery in West Nanticoke PA.  Friends will be received from on Wednesday evening 5:00 PM until 6:45 PM at the church. The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Memorial Fund or World Venture 1501 W.
