Arthur M. Peters, Jr, 83

Arthur M. Peters, Jr., 83, of 1604 Red Lane Danville PA passed away Sunday morning, September 4, 2011 at his residence.  He was born June 3, 1928 in Danville PA the son of the late Arthur M., Sr. and Jessie H. Hinshelwood Peters.   

He attended Danville Schools and graduated from Mercersburg Academy Mercersburg PA in 1946.  Art graduated with an AB Degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia PA in 1950 and received his LLB Degree at the Law School at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia PA in 1953.  He graduated from the F.B.I. Academy in Quantico Virginia in 1954.  He was admitted to practice before the following Courts; United States Supreme Court; United States District Court, Middle District, Pennsylvania; Pennsylvania Supreme Court and Columbia-Montour County Courts. 

Art was employed as a Special Agent with the FBI, United States Dept. of Justice from 1954-1958.  While serving in the Bureau he was stationed in San Diego, California, New York City and Washington DC.  Mr. Peters was self-employed as an Attorney-at-Law in Danville PA from 1958-1996.  He continued practicing Law from 1997 to 2007 as a Partner in the Law Firm of Peters and Tripoli in Danville PA. 

He was married for 55 years to E. Georgene “Georgie” Hoffman on April 10, 1954.  She preceded him in death on March 11, 2010. 

Art had many enjoyments in his life which included flying his own airplane, cruising on his yacht, “The Barrister’s Berth”, skiing and he had an avid interest in searching for arrowheads.

His greatest enjoyment was traveling with his wife, especially through the American and Canadian Rocky Mountains annually.   

His  associations and memberships included the following:  Former Chairman of the Board – FNB Bank, N.A. in Danville PA; Former Director of FNB Bank, NA in Danville PA; Former Director of Fulton Financial Corporation in Lancaster PA; Former Chairman of the Executive Committee of Fulton Financial Corporation in Lancaster PA; Chairman of the Greater Danville Area Industrial Development Corporation; Member of the Trustee Steering Committee, Hospital and Health System Association of PA; Member of Economic Development Council of Central Pennsylvania; Director of Geisinger Health System Foundation; Chairman of the Development Committee of Geisinger Health System Foundation; Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Odd Fellows Cemetery Company in Danville PA; Former Senior Warden, Vestry of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church in Danville PA; Former President of Columbia-Montour County BAR Association; Member of the American Bar Association; Member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association; Former member of the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association; Member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Member of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary; Former Director of Danville Area Chamber of Commerce; Former Director and President of the YMCA Board and Former Director of Danville Chapter of American Red Cross (during the 1960’s).   

He also previously served as Solicitor or was a member of the following organizations and institutions:  FNB, N.A; Montour County Board of Commissioners; Montour County Industrial Development Authority; Redevelopment Authority of the County of Montour; Montour County Register and Recorder’s Office; Montour County Sheriff’s Dept; Mahoning Township Board of Supervisors; Mahoning Township Hearing Board; Mahoning Township Municipal Authority; Mahoning Township Planning Commission; Cooper Township Board of Supervisors; Cooper Township Municipal Authority; Borough of Washingtonville and  Borough of Riverside.   

Other memberships included Danville Lodge #224 F. & A.M.; Caldwell Consistory; Irem Temple; Danville Area Chamber of Commerce; Fraternal Order of Police; Loyal Order of Moose, Danville PA; Frosty Valley Country Club, Elks Lodge in Danville PA; Friendship Fire Co. No. 1; East End Fire Company and South Side Fire Company. 

He is survived by one cousin, Margaret Weirick of Northumberland PA and one brother-in-law, Robert E. Bull of Nescopeck PA.  Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services to be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 11:30 AM at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church Pine St and East Market Danville PA with the Reverend Nancy Shank officiating.  Entombment will be private in the Mausoleum at Odd Fellows Cemetery Danville PA.  The family will provide flowers.  Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Memorial Episcopal Church 120 E Market Street Danville PA  17821, the Thomas Beaver Free Library 25 East Market Street Danville PA or The Geisinger Health System Foundation Memorial Fund 100 N Academy Avenue Danville PA.  Arrangements are under the direction of Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 W Mahoning Street Danville PA.  www.visneski.com
