L. Watts of Danville PA passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011 at his
residence with his loving family beside him. He was born in Bloomsburg PA
the son of the late Raymond and Dora M. Johnson Watts.
graduated from Bloomsburg High School where he excelled in football,
basketball and baseball. He was voted Captain of his championship
basketball team and was a member of the National Athletic Honor Society.
Mr. Watts graduated from Bloomsburg State College with a Bachelorís degree
in Elementary Education with a major in Mathematics. He served as a staff
sergeant with the United States Army Security Agency for communications and
reconnaissance during the Korean War.
Watts was employed for 35 years in the Danville Area School District as a
mathematics teacher, retiring in 1995. While there, he was a junior high
football and basketball coach winning numerous championships. He was a
member of St. James United Church of Christ Ridgeville Danville PA where he
served on the consistory and occasionally served as a fill-in pastor. He
was a member of the Danville Elks, Bloomsburg American Legion, East End Fire
Company Danville PA and other various organizations.
married to Patricia M. Ploch Watts. Together, they had three children; one
son, Robert F. Watts and two daughters; Vicki Watts and Susan E. Hancock and
her husband Jerry of Suwanne Georgia. They have enjoyed their four
granddaughters; Heather Campbell and her husband Andrew of Dublin Georgia;
Brean Hancock of Suwanne Georgia; Kelly Smith and her husband Derick and
Erin Weninger and her husband Mike along with their two great-grandchildren;
Logan and Nevayah Weninger. He is survived by two brothers; Jack Watts of
Berwick PA and Raymond Watts of Montoursville PA. Also surviving are nieces
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service to be held
Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 2:00 PM at St. James United Church of Christ
Ridgeville 2507 Bloom Road Danville PA with the Reverend Richard J. Shearer
Burial will be private. Friends will be received from 12:30 PM until the
time of service at the church. The family will provide flowers. Memorial
contributions in his memory may be made to the church. Arrangements are
under the direction of the Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 W Mahoning Street
