John C. Birth, Jr.

John C. Birth, Jr. 87, of 1702 Red Lane Danville PA went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 3, 2010.  He was born September 13, 1922 in Broadway PA the son of the late John and Pininah Moss Birth.

John attended grade school in Broadway, and graduated from Shickshinny High School in 1940.  He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean conflict.

John worked in timekeeping and payroll positions with The Magee Carpet Company, TRW of Danville, and as a vocational aide at the Danville State Hospital from where he retired in 1984. John also served as the Secretary/Treasurer for Cooper Township, Montour County for 30 years.

He was a faithful member and Elder of the First Church of Christ in Bloomsburg for over 60 years.  He was a Past Master of Mahoning Lodge #516 F&AM Danville, a member of the Scottish Rite in Bloomsburg, and a Noble of Irem Temple Shrine in Dallas, PA. He also served as chairman and member of the Scout committee for Troop # 30 at the Ridgeville Church in Danville for over 20 years while his sons were in the troop.

John enjoyed hunting, playing golf with his friends, and gardening at his farm in Danville.

John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Grace A. (Keller) Birth whom he married February 11, 1944.   Also surviving are his four sons and their wives; Duane L. and wife Sharon of Bendertown  PA; Edwin E. and wife Ann of Havre de Grace MD; Robert E. and wife Lorraine of Millville PA and Scott L. and wife Diane of Effingham NH  He is also survived by ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  John was preceded in death by four brothers, Clyde, Arden, Robert, and Milo Birth, and one sister Susan (Birth) Hawk .

The family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00 PM 4:00 PM Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Visneski Funeral Home Inc. 10 W Mahoning Street Danville PA. Masonic services will be held at 4:00.   Burial will be private Elan Memorial Park Bloomsburg PA In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to the Bloomsburg Christian Church, 107 Deusen Drive, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.  www.visneski.com
