John W. Ruscavage


September 9, 2010


John W. Ruscavage, 89, of 8 Mateo Drive Danville PA passed away Thursday morning, September 9, 2010 at Columbia Montour Home Hospice at Maria Hall Danville PA.  He was born June 21, 1921 in Shenandoah PA the son of the late Wasil and Anna Kurilla Ruscavage.

 He graduated from Enunciation Catholic High School in Shenandoah PA in 1939.  He attended the University of Connecticut and the University of Massachusetts.  Mr. Ruscavage served as First Lieutenant in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII as a transport pilot with over 730 accident-free hours.   He piloted C-47s with the 44th Troop Carrier Squadron, 316th Troop Carrier Group , 61st Troop Carrier Squadron and the 314th Troop Carrier Group in France, England and Germany.  He carried Cargo Troops and towed gliders throughout the Air Offensive of Germany.  Mr. Ruscavage was employed as the deputy building official for the City of Bridgeport CT and as building official in Delray Beach FL. 

Mr. Ruscavage was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church Danville PA.  He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW and the American Legion.

 His enjoyments included woodworking and fly fishing and he was an avid football fan. 

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Emily Waikes Ruscavage whom he married September 29, 1944.   Also surviving are two daughters; Mary Ann Golick and her husband Paul of Durham NC and Donna Ruscavage of Providence RI.  He is also survived by two grandchildren; Laura Gray and her husband Kip of Atlanta GA and Tony Golick of Durham NC.  He was preceded in death by three sisters; Stephanie and Mary Ruscavage and Helene Robertson.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 9:30 AM at The Chapel at Maria Joseph Manor 875 Montour Blvd. Danville PA.  Burial will be private  in St. Michaelís Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery Shenandoah Heights PA.  Memorial contributions may be made to Maria Joseph Manor.  Arrangements are under the direction of Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 W Mahoning Street Danville PA. www.visneski.com
