Georgene H. "Georgie" Peters

Georgene H. “Georgie” Peters, 84, of 1604 Red Lane Danville PA passed away Thursday morning, March 11, 2010 at her residence.  She was born February 15, 1926 in Berwick PA the daughter of the late Fred and Beatrice Bryant Hoffman. 

She graduated from Berwick High School and from Geisinger School of Nursing in Danville PA. She was employed as a pediatric nurse at Geisinger Medical Center Danville PA and at hospitals in Pontiac, Michigan; San Diego, California; Los Angeles, California and Washington DC.  She was also employed as a registered nurse at The Doctor’s Hospital in New York City NY.  Mrs. Peters was a member of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church in Danville PA where she served on the Altar Guild and founded the original Prayer Chain at the church.  Mrs. Peters was the pilot of her own plane and was instrument rated.   She was also a captain of her cruiser boat, “The Barrister’s Berth”.  She had various enjoyments in her life including painting and photography of wildlife, bird watching and skiing.  One of her greatest enjoyments was traveling with her husband through the American and Canadian Rocky Mountains annually.  

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Attorney Arthur M. Peters, Jr. whom she married April 10, 1954.  She was preceded in death by one brother, Frederick Hoffman and one sister Sara Bull.  Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services to be held on Monday, March 15, 2010 11:00 AM at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church Pine St and East Market Danville PA with the Reverend Nancy Shank officiating.  Entombment will be private in the Mausoleum at Odd Fellows Cemetery Danville PA.  The family will provide flowers.  Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Memorial Episcopal Church 120 E Market Street Danville PA  17821 or The Geisinger Health System Foundation Memorial Fund 100 N Academy Avenue Danville PA.  Arrangements are under the direction of Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 W Mahoning Street Danville PA.  www.visneski.com
