Eugene "Gene" Cavanaugh

Eugene “Gene” Cavanaugh, 53, of 1002 Ridgeville Drive Danville PA passed away Sunday, October 3, 2010 at his residence.  He was born September 8, 1957 in Williamsport PA the son of Madonna Cavanaugh of Williamsport. 

He graduated from Bishop Neuman High School in Williamsport PA in 1975 where he played basketball.  He attended various universities and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the University of New York in Brockport NY in 1984.   

Gene was employed as National Accounts Manager for Kawneer Company, Inc. in Bloomsburg PA and has been presently employed by Oldcastle Architectural in Atlanta GA.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church Danville PA and was also a member of Knights of Columbus.  He served on the Montour County Recreation Board.  Gene was an avid athletic enthusiast which involved coaching and supporting, but was especially well known for his uplifting encouragement towards all athletes, especially his own children and family.

 Gene’s greatest enjoyment was helping others and spending time with his family whom he adored.  He is survived his wife of 27 years, Cynthia K. “Cindy” Herman Cavanaugh whom he married May 7, 1983.  Also surviving is one son, Patrick R. Cavanaugh and two daughters; Alyson M. Cavanaugh of Greensboro NC and Caitlin A. Cavanaugh.  In addition to his mother, he is also survived a large family of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.  Also surviving are two aunts; Marcella Cavanaugh and Sister Alicia Cavanaugh and a cousin, Vince Cavanaugh of Rochester NY.   

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 11:00 AM from St. Joseph Catholic Church 18 E. Center Street Danville PA with the Reverend Steven W. Fauser officiating.  Burial will be private.  Friends will be received from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass in St. Hubert’s Chapel at the church.  The family will provide flowers.  Memorial contributions may be made to Danville Stadium Council c/o Turf and Track ATTN:  Business Mgr. 600 Walnut Street Danville PA  17821, St. Joseph Catholic Church or The American Heart Association PO Box 15120 Chicago IL  60693.  Arrangements are under the direction of Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 W Mahoning Street Danville PA  www.visneski.com
