Bruce E. Wray, II

Bruce E. Wray, II of Danville, PA and formerly of West Chester, PA died January 24, 2010 at University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Phila, PA  

Born in Danville, PA on February 28, 1948 he was the son of Eleanor Raup Wray of Danville, PA and the Late Bruce E. Wray Sr.  He was a graduate of Danville Senior High School in 1966, Williamsport School of Commerce in 1967, and Bloomsburg University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. 

Bruce taught at Henderson High School in West Chester, PA for 35 years until his retirement in 2007. He had coached the boys & girls tennis team at Henderson High School. The boy’s team won the Ches-Mont Championship in 1986, 1987 and 1989. The 1989 team went undefeated.
He chaired the scholarship fund at Henderson High School for students majoring in education and was the biggest supporter of Henderson Kiddie Warriors Program, playing Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny for the kids.  Bruce won the Craziest Hawaiian Shirt contest started in his honor. 

He was a social member of several organizations including the Continental Fire Company, Friendship Fire Company, Goodwill Fire Company, Washies Fire Company, and East End Fire Company, Sons of American Legion all of Danville, PA.  Also, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge in both Danville, PA and West Chester, PA.  

He also served on several boards and organizations such as a member of the Elks Board, Elks Lodge Secretary, Elks Home Association President, Vice President and Financial Secretary all of West Chester, PA.   He was also elected Elk of the Year at West Chester Elks Club in 1998-1999. and was given the Outstanding Service to the Community in Education Award from the West Chester Elks in 1997. 

He was chairman of Cerebral Palsy Association of Chester County through the West Chester Elks and volunteered as Santa and the Easter Bunny for CP functions. Bruce served on Zoning Board in Danville Borough, Pa. and was a councilman of 2nd Ward Danville, Pa at the time of his passing. 

He is survived by his former wife and friend Donna Burrows Bowman, of Danville, Pa.  Children, Bruce E. Wray, III of West Chester husband of Christina M. Wray; Brenna E. Gable of Danville, wife of Danny Gable and Sarah L. Bowman of Danville.   He is also survived by his grandchildren; Christopher, Michael, Julia Catherine, Olivia Louise and Alaina Elyse.   

Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins loved ones and friends. He was predeceased by Brother Ronald “Butch” Raup of Danville, Pa 

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm, Thursday, January 28, 2010, at DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc. 410 N. Church St. West Chester, PA; 610-696-1181;www.drsfh.com  

The funeral service will be held at 12:00  noon Saturday, January 30, 2010, at the Visneski Funeral Home, Inc., 10 Mahoning Street, Danville, PA.  Friends will be received from 10:00 AM until 12:00 noon  

Interment will be private. 

In Lieu of flowers, Bruce wishes donations to be made to Henderson High School Faculty Scholarship Fund c/o 724 Marshall Drive, West Chester, PA 19380 or the Elks Scholarship Fund c/o 724 Marshall Drive, West Chester, PA 19380.
