Stephen B. Kistler
II, 80, of 206 Lombard Avenue Danville PA died early Tuesday morning,
October 6, 2009 at Geisinger Medical Center Danville PA. He was born
January 29 1929 in Elmira NY the son of the late Kirtsel S. and Helene
He graduated from
Elmira Free Academy in June 1946. In 1950 Steve received a Bachelor of
Science degree from Hartwick College in Oneonta NY. He served in the US Air
Force during the Korean War where he worked in the hospital pharmacy at both
Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi Mississippi and FEAMCOM pharmacy in
Tachikawa, Japan. In 1957 Steve received a Bachelor of Science degree in
Pharmacy from Union University, Albany College of Pharmacy. He received a
Master of Science degree from Maryland Graduate School of Pharmacy and a
residency certificate from John Hopkins Hospital pharmacy in 1959.
Steve was Director
of Pharmacy at George F. Geisinger Memorial Hospital Danville PA from July
1959 until his retirement February 1991 from Geisinger Medical Center.
He served in all
offices of the Northumberland Pharmaceutical Association and as a member of
the Pennsylvania and American Pharmaceutical Associations and the North
central Pennsylvania and American Societies of Hospital Pharmacists. He was
a founding member of the Northcentral PSHP and upon retirement was awarded
life membership in both the Pennsylvania SHP and Northcentral PSHP. Steve
was awarded Hospital Pharmacist of the year in 1975 by the PA Society of
He was president
of the Danville Kiwanis Club during Kiwanis International 50th
Anniversary year. Steve served as chairman of the Montour County March of
Dimes and the Montour County Cancer Crusade.
Steve was an
active member of Grove Presbyterian Church Danville PA where he served as a
Trustee, Deacon, Elder and Clerk of the Session. He and his wife Judy were
founders and presidents of the Grove Joyliner Couples Club for a number of
years. He served as Chairman of the Facilities Expansion Commission which
developed plans and supervised the construction of the new East educational
wing, west stair tower and renovated the basement of the church, a project
that was completed in summer of 1996.

his wife of 50 years, Judith Laegeler Kistler. They were married on June
27, 1959 in Highland Park Presbyterian Church, Highland Park, Illinois.
Also surviving is one daughter, Karen K. Kraft and her husband Christopher
of Valparaiso, Indiana and two grandchildren; Allyson and Matthew Kraft. He
is also survived by one brother, Kirt William Kistler of Elmira NY; one
niece, Kristina L. Kistler of Troy PA and two nephews; Stephen P Kistler of
Elizabethtown PA and Scott T. Uecker of Franklin, Indiana.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a
Celebration of Stephen’s life to be held Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 11:15
AM from Grove Presbyterian Church 330 Bloom Street Danville PA with the Rev.
Dr. Robert J. Andrews officiating. Burial will be private in the Memorial
Garden of the church. Friends will be received from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM
in the Great Room of the church. The family will provide flowers. Memorial
contributions may be made to Grove Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
