Larry B. Swanger, 64, of
700 Blue Hill Drive Danville PA died Sunday morning, February 8, 2009 at his
residence. He was born May 12, 1944 in Lewisburg PA the son of the late
Leroy and Dorothy Hauck Swanger.
He graduated from
Lewisburg High School in 1962. He was employed by Milton Transportation and
then as a part-time police officer for Riverside Borough for seven years.
He retired as a sergeant from the Mahoning Township Police Department. Mr.
Swanger was employed by Geisinger Medical Center in the Security Department
where he also taught fire safety. At Geisinger Medical Center, he was also
employed by Vitaline. Mr. Swanger was also a bus driver for King Coal
Transportation. He especially enjoyed being Santa at Christmas.
He was a member of the
Milton Lodge #256 F&AM. Mr. Swanger enjoyed collecting antique Farmall
tractors and models. He was a member of the Montour County Antique Farm
Machinery Association, the Loyalsock Valley Antique Machinery Association
and the International Harvester Association. He was a member of the
Buffalo Valley Sportsmanís Association and the Southside Fire Department.
Mr. Swanger was a promoter for country music seeking Nashville talent and
local acts for Pennsylvania and surrounding areas.
He is survived by his
wife of 43 years, Paula Shenck Swanger whom he married August 28, 1965.
Also surviving is one daughter, Lori M. Swanger of Vancouver Washington. He
is also survived by a twin brother, Barry Swanger of Lewisburg PA and four
sisters; Dora Mae Minium, Montoursville, PA; Alice Ann Snyder, Mifflinburg
PA; Mary Lou Russell, Lewisburg PA and Joan Rearick of Milton PA. Also
surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends
are invited to attend funeral services to be held Thursday, February 12,
2009 at 1:00 PM at St. Peterís United Methodist Church 240 Sunbury Road
Riverside PA with the Reverend Dr. Donald N. Hurley officiating. Burial
will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery Danville PA. Friends will be received
Wednesday evening from 7-9 PM at Visneski Funeral Home 10 W Mahoning Street
Danville PA and from 12:00 Noon until the time of service at the church.
