Joseph Harold Hoffman

Joseph Harold Hoffman, 87, of 3489 Colonel John Kelly Road Lewisburg PA went to be with his Lord on Saturday, October 24, 2009.  He was born on January 6, 1922 in Gratz, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Minnie Fidler Hoffman and Charles G. Hoffman. 

 He was educated in the Lykens Valley Schools.  In his early years, he and two sisters traveled and sang in the Hoffman Trio.  He and his wife Josephine also traveled throughout the United States in evangelistic work and later settled down to pastor and plant several churches.  He was a member of Crossroads Church of the Nazarene where he taught the senior adult Sunday school class for 30 years.  He was also employed as a salesman for Shuler & Alder Homes of Winfield, PA until his retirement in 1988.  He supported his community by serving as a Kelly Township Supervisor for eight years.

Joseph loved to work outdoors and often whistled while he worked.  He loved people and was very friendly.  His hobbies included hunting, playing the guitar and mandolin, singing, farming, traveling, and studying Native American history.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine Moyer Hoffman, formerly of Loganton PA, with whom he recently observed their 59th wedding anniversary.  Also surviving is one daughter; Sharon Davis and her husband Rev. Arlie Davis of Milton PA and two sons;  Timothy Hoffman and his wife Lynn of Lewisburg PA and Wayne Hoffman of Lewisburg PA.   Joseph is also survived by eight grandchildren; Aidan and Adrienne-Leigh Davis, Angela Gerlinski, Nicholas Hoffman, Russell Davis III, Judi Barlage, Ami Bang, and Michael Davis.  In addition, he has three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Austin, and Emma Gerlinski and step-grandchildren, Clint Davis, Lauren, Becca, William Barlage, Cassie, Breanna, Michael Davis, Riley and Jackson Bang.  One of 11 children, he is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Yerger of Winfield,Pa;  Mrs. Lucille King of Mifflinburg,PA  and Mrs. Betty Cresswell of Northumberland PA.  He was preceded in death by his sisters; Myrtle Shatto of Millersburg PA, Lillian Shreiner of Harrisburg PA and his brothers; Allen of Elizabethville, PA, Philip Hoffman of Tucson, Arizona, and Ernest Hoffman of Sunbury.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Blair who died in infancy. 

Relatives and friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening, October 27, 2009  in the Prayer Chapel of Christ Wesleyan Church, 363 Stamm Road Milton PA and from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 AM on Wednesday prior to the service.  A Celebration of his life will be held in the Family Life Center of Christ Wesleyan Church Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 12:00 Noon with Rev. Arlie Davis and Rev. Bud Rutherford officiating.  Burial will be held at 3:00 PM in St. Paul's United Brethren Cemetery in Loganton, PA.  Memorial contributions may be made to either Meadowbrook Christian School 363 Stamm Road Milton PA 17847 or WPGM Radio Station PO Box 236 Danville PA 17821.  WPGM's music and programs provided great comfort to Joseph in the last six months of his life.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 W Mahoning Street Danville PA.  www.visneski.com
