James W. "Jim" Lewis, Sr.

James W. “Jim” Lewis, Sr., 66, of 50 Kelly’s Dam Road Danville PA went to be with his Lord and Savior suddenly at his residence Wednesday, December 09, 2009.  He was born May 29, 1943 in Danville PA the son of the late Charles and Gladys Straub Lewis. 

He attended Danville Area Schools.  Mr. Lewis was retired as a heavy equipment operator for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.  He especially enjoyed his job of working for Folk’s Deep Fried Veggies during Bloomsburg Fair week.  He was an active member of Christ Wesleyan Church Milton PA where he served as a shuttle bus driver and was involved with the coffee ministry.  He also enjoyed coaching the Men’s Softball Team at the church.  An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Lewis enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.  He was especially known as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.   

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gwen J. Hughes-Kessler Lewis whom he married July 12, 1963.  Also surviving are two sons; James W. Lewis, Jr. of Danville PA and Scott J. Lewis of Northumberland PA and one daughter, Sheila A. Lewis of Danville PA. 

He is also survived by three grandchildren; Desiree Brosious, Renee Lewis and Cecillia Lewis and two great-grandchildren; Jayden and Jazmine Dietrich.  Also surviving are two brothers; Charles and David Lewis of Danville PA and one sister, Donna Houseknecht of Millville PA.  He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Crystal Lewis, in infancy and one brother, Robert Lewis.  Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the small sanctuary of Christ Wesleyan Church 363 Stamm Road Milton PA with his pastor the Reverend Arlie E. Davis officiating.  Burial will be private in Elan Memorial Park Bloomsburg PA.  Friends will be received from 9:30 AM until the time of service in the small sanctuary.  Memorial contributions may be made to either Special Olympics/Columbia Montour PO Box 654 Bloomsburg PA  17815 or Meadowbrook Christian School 363 Stamm Road Milton PA  17847.  Arrangements are under the direction of Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 W Mahoning Street Danville PA.  www.visneski.com
