Grace P. Scanlon

September 8, 2009

Grace P. Scanlon, 88, formerly of 611 North 5th Street Sunbury PA died Sunday, September 6, 2009 at Emmanuel Nursing Center at Maria Joseph Danville PA where she had resided since December 2007. She was born January 4, 1921 in Shamokin PA the daughter of the late Charles and Catherine Boyle Metz. 

She graduated from St. Edward’s Catholic High School Shamokin PA in 1938.  She attended Juilliard School of Music in New York City for one year.  Mrs. Scanlon received her teaching certificate to teach piano from Diller-Quayle School of Music in New York City NY.  She was a former member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Sunbury PA.  Some of her greatest enjoyments included playing the piano and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and dogs.   

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, James L. Scanlon whom she married November 23, 1946.  She is also survived by one son James C. Scanlon, Sr. and his wife Joanne of Clarks Summit PA and one daughter Sally A. Martin and her husband Thomas of Frederick Maryland.  Also surviving are five grandchildren; Colleen Mullally, James C. Scanlon, Jr., Ann Marie Ward, Karen Ghani and Kelly Martin, M.D. and four great-grandchildren; Mina Ghani, Benjamin and Zachary Ward and Liam Mullally.  She was preceded in death by two brothers; Charles Metz and the Reverend John E. Metz and three sisters; Mary Metz, Catherine Belanger and Sally Metz.   

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held Friday, September 11, 2009 at 11:00 AM in St. Hubert Chapel at St. Joseph Catholic Church 18 E. Center Street Danville PA with the Reverend Steven Fauser officiating.  Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery Elysburg PA.  Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Nursing Center at Maria Joseph 600 Schoolhouse Road Danville PA  17821.  Arrangements are under the direction of Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 W Mahoning Street Danville PA.  www.visneski.com
