Gladys M. Hartzell

Gladys M. Hartzell, 87, of 60 Franklin Avenue Bloomsburg PA passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at her residence.  She was born December 19, 1921 in Mayberry Township, Montour County, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Arthur W. and Celia A. Lewis Swank.   

Gladys was a homemaker.  She was a member of the former Pillar of Fire Church in Danville PA for over 52 years.  She attended Bloomsburg Baptist Church in Bloomsburg PA.  She enjoyed doing word search puzzles and putting puzzles together.  Another one of her favorite past times was bird watching.   

She was married to the late William W. “Mike” Hartzell, Sr. who preceded her in death March 8, 1977.   

She is survived by two sons; William W. “Bill” Hartzell, Jr. and his wife Ada of Las Vegas, Nevada and Dean A. Hartzell and his wife Hope Noel of Hazleton PA and two daughters; Karen M. Hartzell with whom she resided and Marlene G. Shimko and her husband John of Berwick PA.  Also surviving are four grandchildren; Joanne Benedetto, Jennifer Barber, Jason Hartzell and Rebecca Shimko.  She is also survived by four great-grandchildren; Lisette, Nicholas, Gabriella and Alexis.  She was preceded in death by two brothers; Raymond L. Swank and Reverend Wilbur A. Swank and two sisters; Viola Wray and Reverend Mary M. Wampfler.  Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.  She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Elmer L. Hartzell and her sister-in-law, Sylvia P. Hartzell; both of Bloomsburg PA. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services to be held Monday, December 14, 2009 at 2:00 PM from Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 W Mahoning Street Danville PA with Pastor Craig Laidacker officiating.  Burial will follow in Elan Memorial Park Bloomsburg PA.  Friends will be received from 12:30 PM until the time of service.  www.visneski.com
